The performance of a variety of Path of Exile items can be enhanced by upgrading them. They can be a good source of damage or more AD or even more attachments.

Rare-grade equipment can be superior to upgraded Common or Magic equipment due to their higher requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades can be applied to both weapon and armor items. They increase the effectiveness of the item Upgrader Mod that they're connected to. Armor upgrades can be found in the world of games and purchased from Blacksmiths on bonfires. Alternatively, they can also be rescued from items with upgrade components in them with a professional or higher salvage kit.

The amount of damage an armored piece or weapon can absorb depends on the degree of upgrades. The ability to absorb damage of an armor piece will increase when it's upgraded to the highest upgrade level. However, it's important note that this will also increase its weight, which will cause it to be heavier than before.

There are a variety of armor upgrades that are available in the game. Each has a different impact. Certain upgrades grant armor an extra number of health points while others make it more powerful and lighter. The type of armor upgrade that an item level upgrade will receive will be identified by the name of the upgrade, as illustrated in the table below.

Certain upgrades require magic or a hybrid technology and magic, which is shown by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table. Some upgrades also require charges for use. In Chapter 2: Season 5, the ways to upgrade your equipment and weapon sets was a bit different. Before, you could seek out an Upgrade Bench and pay for a specific number of Bars to upgrade your equipment or weapon to an increased level of rarity. You could continue to do this until you reach a maximum upgrade level for your equipment or weapon, following which the upgrades would be reset.

It's still possible, but it relies heavily on RNG. It is better to purchase gear with minimal upgrade levels but with high base scores and stat distributions. These items will have a better chance of granting you the highest tier advantages and benefits.

To increase their level faster, many players prioritize upgrading their weapons. In addition, players should consider upgrading the weapons favored by their teammates to make them more powerful and effective. Jewels

Jewels are utilized in the armor's sockets and weapons, enhancing the stats of a weapon and providing additional effects. The quality of a gem can be improved at the Jeweler in stages that range from Crude to Royal. The stat boosts can vary depending on the level the jewel is in when it is inserted into jewelry, weapons or gear.

The Jeweler can craft all tiers of gems, with the exception of rare and legendary ones, which you must attain certain levels to gain. Like other upgrade components jewels can be swapped out with a jewel of the same type without damaging it. You can only replace the gem only once in a piece of equipment.

It is common to use more gems to enhance the appearance of. In addition to improving performance, the jewels also create a surface that is harder than metal, which means that repeated friction from pivots won't cause harm as easily.

A Glyphmaster can provide glyphs to enhance the look of your shields and weapons. These provide a small bonus and are able to be swapped easily, but are not guaranteed to drop as loot. Glyphs are like jewelry and can be upgraded by the Jeweler in exchange for Scattered Crystals and gold. Glyphs may also be removed and returned to the inventory. They can be obtained in the beginning areas as loot or personal story rewards from vendors, or by completing road interactions. They can be purchased from the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.

The first trinket a player will unlock is the cloak. It provides a tiny but beneficial boost in movement speed and the ability to escape. Then, they can acquire rings, amulets, and necklaces in the same fashion to how the player obtains weapons and armor. Every piece of equipment has an upgrade slot which can be universal or jewel. Universal upgrades are smaller and are able to be used on any piece of equipment. Jewels cannot be upgraded or replaced and are only compatible with certain trinkets.

These trinkets can also grant bonuses and abilities that are active when the hero is not fighting. This allows the hero to become more efficient even when not in combat. It can also make up for the absence of good team or talent tree slots which would normally be filled by the hero's best stats.

A good rule of thumb for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best-in-Slot) items that you will not replace soon, followed by any items with desirable stats but less important than the iLevel of the item level upgrade being upgraded. This is true especially if you're looking to upgrade several statistics on an item upgrading. It's more beneficial to upgrade a single important stat than two less important ones.

Jungle players usually upgrade their yellow trinkets to a red one prior to the start of the game. Top and mid players, on the other hand, will choose a green or a pink ward, depending on the game's matchup. These choices will have an impact on the ability of a hero to control the map.
