3 Wheeler Buggies

A three-wheeled buggy is perfect for off-roading and provides a smooth ride for baby. They are also easier to move and push than a four-wheel buggy, particularly those with fabric slings or modular seat units that are placed perfectly within the frame, providing the most efficient geometry and weight distribution.

Stability

A three-wheeler has great stability, which is the reason it's an ideal option for off-road walks (especially with an all-terrain or off-road style seat unit). These types of buggys typically have large front tires that can handle bumps, kerbs and rough terrain. Some models even come with a lockable front wheel to provide extra stability on uneven terrain.

It's important to remember that 3-wheel buggies have lower center of gravity than the 4-wheeled versions and, therefore, can topple over more readily. They should be able to turn at a whim and be easy to steer with one hand. They also come with a 360o rotating front wheel that is ideal for navigating difficult terrain.

Look for models that have pneumatic tyres. These are made to handle nonpaved tracks, and are able to withstand mud, gravel, rocks and more. A majority of all-terrain buggies come with a swivelling front wheel that can be locked to increase stability when tackling extremely rough ground too.

A 3 wheel pushchairs-wheel pram is also an excellent option for runners or those who like to walk quickly and uphill, especially if you're planning to attach a carrycot or car seat. It's lightweight and compact, and is suitable for use starting at birth. It can be used with a car seat or carrycot. It can also be used for jogging with a light pace, but is not intended for serious runners.

Weight

If you are looking for a buggy that can tackle difficult terrain, then you should select one with large tires. They can handle cobbles, grass and dirt tracks while providing the smoothest ride for all passengers. These are also great for jogging because they have a suspension built-in and are easy enough to climb up and down kerbs. However, the downside is that they can be quite heavy to push.

The Mountain Buggy Urban Glide 2 is the most suitable 3 wheel stroller wheel buggy you can use on rough terrain (pictured above). This 3-wheeler has 16 rear wheels, and a lockable swivel front wheel making it extremely maneuverable. It has tyres with air that need to be pumped up from time to time. It can carry children up until the age of three. MFM reviewer Kath said that her toddler liked the shape of the seat and found it easy to steer with her 3-year-old son on the board.

Another option that is great is the Baby Jogger Versa GT, which has an adjustable handlebar and a high-quality hood with 50+ UV protection. It is also easy to move up and down kerbs and fits into a the boot of a car that is small. It can also be used as a stroller and a carrycot for newborns or toddlers.

Fabric sling seats sit snugly within the frame of the buggie instead of sitting on top of it as modular seats. This design delivers a lower centre of gravity that is at the ideal height, instantly making it easier to push and lighter to kerb pop (you can never overestimate the amount of times you'll have to do this when you're a new parent!)

Seating

There are a variety of alternatives for seating options in 3 wheelers. The carrycot included is perfect for newborns (which MFM reviewer Alice describes as a cozy and comfortable lying-flat bed that can be used in and out of the buggy). Older children and toddlers will appreciate the spacious and padded seat unit with adjustable ventilation. It's worth noting that the seats aren't fully reclined however they can be lowered to the lowest level that will still allow your child plenty of headroom and space to move around.

A fabric sling is also available. It is advantageous in that it is placed inside the frame, instead of on top as a modular seat. This means that it has a lower centre of gravity with perfect weight distribution. This makes it easier to push, particularly on bumpy terrain or over curbs. MFM reviewer Kath liked the way this kind of seat handled the obstacles.

This type of buggy comes with a large basket and other useful features such as an extendable hood with 50+ UV protection, a simple to use brake pedal, and some unique visibility lights which can be put in front of occupants to ensure safety when riding on rough terrain.

Storage

The 3-wheeled frame makes the buggy more stable to push one handed, and it's also great for handling difficult terrain. However, it does mean that the basket won't hold as much as a 4-wheeler buggy.

A high-quality ATP will have pneumatic tyres with a padded grip for comfort and excellent suspension. It should also be equipped with a carrycot and car seat which means you can use it right from the moment you are born.

MFM's reviewers found that the 3-wheeler frames couldn't fit through their home doors or car boot. If you're worried about space, make sure you check the dimensions when the buggy is folded before purchasing.

Find a 3-wheeler that has 2 (or 3 wheel twin stroller!) seats. This is the best option for your child's future and will save you money. The iCandy strawberry sport is among the best of these and can be used as a single seat from day dot and then converts into twin buggies once your baby begins walking.

Tyres

These tires cushion bumps and uneven surfaces to make your child's ride more enjoyable. They are typically used on pushchairs such as the Phil & Ted's Sport which MFM reviewer Kath said provided "an outstanding ride for her toddler". She also noted that the grippy tyres on the Phil & Ted's Sport made it simple for her to maneuver around kerbs and other obstacles.

These tyres are sometimes difficult to maintain their inflation and will need to be filled regularly. These tyres are prone to punctures, and you should always carry an repair kit and spare inner tube when you're out and about.

PU tyres can be seen on more pushchairs than air-filled tyres but they're still as sturdy. You can tell PU tires by their smooth appearance and soft texture. They also slide well on smooth and tightly woven surfaces.

Additionally, these types of tyres can typically be noisy because they make a lot of noise as you turn and make your way around the town.
