The best robot hoover can vacuum and mop without needing your attention, and it leaves your floors spotless. Its affordable price and high-end features (such as a dirt detectors) are positives.

Check your robot's brushes regularly for tangled debris as well as hair. Clean them as needed. Some models can also self-empty the onboard dustbin and deposit it in an additional bin at the bottom. This reduces the amount fine dust that gets released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive counterpart the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have test. They feature motors that are top of the line and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other top iRobot models (including the top-rated model) they employ smart mapping technology to create detailed floor plans that avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also feature carpet boost, a feature that increases the robot's power when it detects the presence of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned up quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on floors that were bare They are also adept at cleaning dog hair. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to get caught up in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of a room.

It's still a good value for those whose office or home has a lot of unfinished floors and you want to save money. It's also very quiet and can be used while you're at work, or at school. The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective in mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. If you need to mop, the mopping pad can be replaced with one that is wet in just a few minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as quick navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in tackling larger particles such as pet hair. It also has an impressive suction system and self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robot cleaner hoover for carpets, though it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This top-performing combination vacuum and mop uses advanced sensor technology to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it will learn the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average compared to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to pull back and extend its mop. This can help avoid cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach beneath low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete an entire house, finishing with 66 percent of its battery left. It did a good cleaning job on different floors and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was superb and it was able to avoid fake dog turds, socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums this feature, which we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular look that looks more like a regular Roomba unit than the boxy units of the competitors. It is one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop that has a perfect 10 in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

Like other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, offering an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work, or during the night when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. If you're willing to live with a little more noise and some extra cost this is a capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features to help you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner comes with the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also comes with an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house based on how dirty these areas tend to be.

For larger homes, it's worth opting for models with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one particular area of your house by using the app or voice controls. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have number of furniture. For families with busy schedules, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be extremely useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price suggests. It is a good vacuum cleaner and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad that has a reciprocating motion, which is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through the mapping process which collects information about your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, arrange the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance. The app also grants access to a variety of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it can get to corners and underneath furniture better. It is equipped with an impressive 8000 Pascal suction, as well as intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean the area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute little eyes. It is great at vacuuming, however it is more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums we have tested. It also has an app that's not as intuitive, and a smaller base station that does not double as a bin to empty.
