It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that has 100% in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device which could be an issue if you use it in the morning before work or at night as you try to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful, but it's more expensive and create more noise.

It's also highly self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, or to create an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas for better performance. The app also provides access to a host of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
