Diablo 4 Item Upgrades

Item upgrades allow players to increase the level of equippable items such as weapons or armor, as well trinkets up to a certain amount. You can upgrade items at any NPC that accepts the appropriate currency.

You can obtain upgrade components through crafting or buy them from vendors. You can also loot them or drop them from other players or receive them as a reward. Upgrade components can be put into weapons, armor and trinkets. They can also be mounted to gathering tools. However, most upgrade components can't be repaired or reused, except by using an Upgrade Extractor. The only exception is the glyphs. They are salvageable using the Black Lion Salvage Kit, or Ascended Salvage tool.

Depending on the type of item, upgrading an item upgrading may cost Dilithium or gold. Additionally, many upgrades require Flightstones or crests. The amount of Flightstones and Crests required to upgrade an item is determined by the level of the item. Blizzard also sets a maximum level for upgrades. Upgrades to the highest level are expensive especially when upgrading PvE equipment.
