At the center of each Space Key is a block made of the most advanced carbon fire composite material that was sent to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a research program. After returning to Earth it was stamped with a QR code that links it to the digital component of the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys will feature a distinct moment that occurs only seconds apart as the lamborghini keys Ultimae lifts off toward the stars. More than 600 million pixels make each of the five images that were taken by photographer Fabian Oefner.

Oefner used an inflatable camera with a lens to capture the individual images, which were later combined into the final photo.
