The ability to upgrade items allows players to upgrade their weapons and gear with new affixes that boost the base stats of the item upgrade or providing additional benefits. To upgrade items, the player must have the item in their inventory and access the kiln.

Usually items that have weak bases (like rings) can be upgraded to a stronger base, whereas objects with strong bases, such as Eth titans don't change much in their stats after being upgraded.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components can be added to weapons, armors trinkets, weapons, and gathering tools. They provide an attribute bonus, or additional effect, when the equipment is being used. They can be bought from vendors, or found as loot gathered by enemies or obtained from chests or missions. Some upgrades additionally have special cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be at a certain level to upgrade.

To upgrade an armor, weapon or other Best item upgrader in the game, players must select it and click the Upgrade button on the toolbar. The screen will show on the right-hand side of the screen a preview that shows the expected upgrade statistics and the required component or materials.

There are three kinds of upgrade components: universal upgrades, prefix upgrades, and suffix upgrades. Universal upgrades, like gems, can be put on any type of equipment. They offer a lesser bonus than upgrade components that have a specific type limitation. Infusions, which can only be placed in gear that is ascended and legendary equipment are exactly the same as gems, but offer higher bonuses and cannot be used in any other type of equipment. Suffix upgrades can be added to gathering tools. They will add the suffix to the end of item names. For example adding a Glyph will transform a staff wrapping of Minor Vigor into a Canthan staff wrapping of Minor Vigor.

If a player upgrades a gathering tool and replaces glyphs with another glyph the old one will be returned to their inventory. However, replacing any other upgrade component will damage it, excluding inscriptions which can be freely swapped.

Leveling

The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some important variations from the previous versions. Gear is now broken down into tracks and items can be upgraded a specific number of times before they're "leveled out." The upgrade cost increases with each level up, but the required materials aren't as high. This allows players to focus their efforts on a select few items and maximize the impact of those items, rather than spreading upgrade costs over multiple pieces.

This will allow the item to receive new upgrade components and a higher chance of success. This bonus is called the Artisan's Energy. It will reset to 0 if the upgrade fails, or increases if the upgrade succeeds.

Once a piece of gear is upgraded to its highest level, it will be able to be given affixes that boost its attributes. The number of affixes available depends on the item's base type. For example an uncommon or unique weapon that has a standard base will only have two affixes, whereas a legend armor will have eight affixes.

Each upgrade step will require a certain number of Flightstones and crests to complete, depending on the current level of the item and the slot it's in. Weapons typically require more Flightstones than other equipment.

If an item fails to reach its max level the NPC will offer the player the option to transfer it to another character and re-infuse it with an upgrade set that is different. This procedure can take as long as two hours, and costs the same amount of materials. However, it has a lower rate of success.

Engineers may employ a level to measure the height of the building with a known location, such as the benchmark. This process is known as a "level-loop." This involves taking readings using the level, backsighting rod, and then turning the level to take the foresighting rod reading. This method makes sure that buildings are built to a high standard of accuracy and safety.

Rerolling

Rerolling is the process of altering the upgrade components of an item. It is a very important part of the game and can improve the damage, strength or other characteristics. You can do this via the menu for items, or by pressing the Reroll button when you upgrade an item. Rerolling can be costly and should only be performed in very rare instances.

Reroll tokens are derived by recycling upgraded items. These tokens are then used to upgrade the original item or an item of the same type. Recyclable items come with a gauge that shows the amount of upgrade. The rarity and cost of upgrading an item determines the level of filling.

In the past, some upgrade items had priority affixes which made them easier to roll for than other. This meant that you could get the stats that mattered most to your build more often than other. This included stats like the armor's total armour, thorns and the control impaired duration stats or the weapon's bonus attack speed and crit strike chance.

This has changed since the last patch. Priority affixes have been removed and all upgrades will have the same chances of rolling for each stat. This could be good or bad, depending on what you're looking for and want from your equipment.

Each upgraded item may be equipped with a special bonus that boosts the power of the item by a fixed percentage or flat value. These bonuses are added over the standard affixes. The more you improve a product, the greater your chances of receiving the bonus of a different kind.

The game also comes with a number of sets, that offer a set-based bonus when three or more upgraded items from the same set are equipped on the same unit. This is a good method of giving the character more power without spending a ton of money.

Many players reroll their weapons and gear particularly in the initial stages. Rerolling can give players a faster route to a more powerful character and allows them to climb higher levels and advance in the game more quickly.

Sets

Sets are collections that can be set up in different ways. They can be different sizes, contain none of the elements, or have a single element. They can be used for organizing data or sorting information. They also aid in analysing patterns. Sets can be classified in a variety of ways, including by size and shape.

The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom offers an array of upgradeable set items. Certain items are worth upgrading, while others aren't. Upgrades are worthwhile for armor sets with high defense and set bonuses. Upgrades to weapons aren't as effective in improving stats as their counterparts in purple. This makes them less appealing to upgrade in the event that your collection of weapons and armor pieces is already large.

Certain set items are upgraded to meet their unique procs that can be useful in some builds. Guillaume's Face face and Aldur's Advance boots are two examples of this. Both were upgraded to Exceptional Winged Helms as well as Exceptional Mirrored Boots, respectively. This increased their defense from 217 to 321. (Strength requirements and Level requirements were also increased).

Upgrades can also be done to bring certain items to the level of the levels. For example, the Immortal King set has a large level range, between 29 and 76. Upgrading lower-level set items can boost their defense and make them more competitive in terms of damage.

Clicking the Upgrade button will display the attributes of the item and the required items to upgrade it. The item's attributes will be displayed together with any required items. To upgrade the No-mouth Face for instance, 1.1K Scrap Materials will be required, 250 Enchanted Dust and 5 Glowing Shards. Alternately, players can go to the Leaderboard or Golden vendor in Cyrodiil to see the upgrade requirements for specific items.

In general, armor and weapons have higher value when fully updated. Upgrades to gold are recommended for weapons that have spells or glyphs that damage weapons. This will result in a significant increase in their performance. The armor that has a new appearance will benefit from this upgrade because its defense will increase when it goes from purple to gold.
