It's a great option for a mother recovering from a c-section because you can easily pull baby to your side for night feeds or nappy changes without needing to get out of bed. And the cosiest cribs also have mesh sides that are breathable so you can view your baby through.

Some cribs lower the barrier completely, giving you the comfort of sleeping with your partner without the associated risks (check that the crib you choose is compliant with the latest safety standards however). Some cribs allow you to lower the barrier but then pop it up again after you have lifted baby out. It's a large design that has an opening side panel as well as a patented perforated base that creates an air cushion to boost airflow. In addition, there's an integrated reflux setting and an swivel 360 to allow you to rotate the crib to accommodate the position of your baby.

If you're looking for something smaller in size the Tutti Bambini CoZee is a different stylish option, with oak legs and clever fabrics that will complement your decor. It's also incredibly easy to put together. Georgina who took part in the MFM test was able to put it together in a matter of minutes without needing to consult any instructions. It's also a great travel cot that folds flat before slipping into a bag for easy storage.

The Next2me Magic, which was shortlisted for the Best Cot, Crib or Moses Basket at the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards, is also slightly larger than the average, but is still quite compact and easy to fit to your bed. Georgina found it straightforward to put together, though she did find that the zips could have been better explained on the instruction sheet.

Easy to clean

Look for cribs that come with removable mattress covers which can be washed in the machine while looking at cribs for bed or travel cots. This will keep it clean and free of dribbles, leaky diapers, and spit-up. You should also select an item that can be easily disassembled to allow you to clean and sanitise every nook and cranny.
