WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you an increase in certain stats. Each upgrade increases the item level by +3. A random extra substat is also added to every upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more useful, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used to upgrade will remain in use for a long time and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create the enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader every several weeks.

The cost of upgrading will depend on the current level of the gear being upgraded, but will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade items weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players from NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor. button, which will display an Item Level Upgrade's preview at the next upgrade items level when the player has enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot for the item and the current item level. For example, weapons will cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain level and is degraded, it can be sold and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currencies.

Item upgraders can be found in many places including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and a chance to obtain a new recipe. The discount for upgrades increases according to the number of items being upgraded. It can also be boosted by having players complete some specific achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no upgrader for items at the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades require a variety of means which is both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3, a number of new features have been added to the upgrade system. Once the player has upgraded to a certain item upgrading level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This is even if the items come from a different set of gear.

The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is reduced too, but it is only available when certain milestones are achieved.

Crests

Players have a variety of options for upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an item that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specific, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only able to be spent on equipment of a particular rank, and that every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The most basic and straightforward upgrade item process costs just 15 crests while the most complicated may require as many as 20 crests based on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through completing content of the appropriate level, which involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, dungeons or raids of any difficulty for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. The crests can then be exchanged with an item upgrader like Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and routes.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, however it will bring some changes to the process of upgrading. When a piece of equipment has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it no longer requires Flightstones. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

Another important change is that crests only have one purpose, so it's important to use them wisely. For instance it's a good idea utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests with the Best item upgrader gear you have available, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning to make. This is especially relevant for items like trinkets and rings that fill multiple slots. The account-wide discount will only be applicable if all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
