Titration

A highly experienced consultant psychiatrist will conduct a thorough assessment of your ADHD. This will include an examination of your medical history as well as an assessment using the standard ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

After your examination, you will be informed whether medication is appropriate for your particular situation. This will take place at your follow-up appointment (which can be done in person, via video link or via phone). Your physician will go over the various medication options available. If you decide to start taking medication, we will help you the opportunity to increase your dosage to maximize the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This is a process which may take several weeks and requires adjusting your child's dosage gradually until the proper balance is reached. It's not uncommon to need to titrate several times before determining the most effective one for your child's ADHD symptoms. It is crucial that parents take part in the titration and be on the lookout for their child's behavior, so they can inform the doctor whether the medication is helping or causing adverse effects.

If you decide to go back to NHS treatment you will be issued a private prescription for your medication. You will have to pay at the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation fee. You will be required to attend regular appointments every six months to monitor your medication. This includes blood pressure and pulse readings. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the assessment is completed and you are satisfied, you can schedule appointment with the psychiatrist. The appointment is usually done via zoom video call. However, in some instances, it could be possible to have an audio-only appointment to be scheduled (again with an additional cost).

At this point, we will discuss treatment options and agree upon a bespoke individualised ADHD medication titration program. This will include a discussion and review of your medication dose and any adverse effects you may be experiencing. These titrations cost PS150 for face-to-face sessions, and PS60 via telephone or video consultation. Costs for medication are extra and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The psychiatrist will also inquire with you about your family history and the impact that your ADHD symptoms impact your life, as well as any issues with relationships you may be facing or any other mental health issues you might be experiencing. If you are unsure of what you would prefer We suggest you talk with your GP prior to booking your private assessment as some providers have different policies regarding whether they require the submission of a GP referral letter or not. We also advise to confirm that your GP accepts a "Shared-Care Agreement', which means that after you have been discharged from the clinic, you will be returned to them for the medication prescription.

Medication

For many who wish to obtain a private diagnosis of ADHD, medication is a key element of their treatment. Finding a prescription from an NHS psychiatrist can be a challenge and lengthy. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long, and GPs are often reluctant to refer patients on to specialist services.
