The item upgrade allows players to boost the gear rating of an item upgrading up to 700 points and add a final bonus. Items can be upgraded if they are in your inventory and you take them to the Kiln.

Certain items are worth upgrading because of their unique stats. (For example the perfect broken point armor that is rolled can be used in melee PvP). Other items like weapons don't change much after an upgrade and therefore aren't worth the cost.

Weapons

Upgrades to weapons can boost their numerical stats, such as attack damage, crit probability and PvE/PvP damage. Weapons also come with a flat bonus that increases the damage they deal per second. Many weapons also have an unaffected bonus that is activated when three or more identical weapons are equipped in a single unit. This bonus may be more than the damage that an upgrade can do on its own.

The cost of upgrading a weapon varies on its rarity as well as its current level. For example, an +2 weapon will require two standard Smithing Stones while a+3 requires four. The number of stones required to upgrade the weapon will continue to rise until it requires the higher level of Smithing Stones, at which the amount will be reset to one.

Upgrading weapons will also reroll their base stats. While this is generally beneficial however, it could have negative consequences as well. Upgrades can make items impossible to use, unless you are very lucky.

Upgrades can be made to armor items to boost their performance. For instance, if you have a helm or chest, this will increase its base defense while gloves and belts will enhance their required strength and dexterity. Armor also has the option of rerolling its Enhanced Defense percentage, which means that it could reroll to a lower value.

The upgrade template of a weapon will show the new stats it will gain when upgrading, along with the relative values of those stats. This means that a change from a sword that has 8 damage to an 11-attack-damage sword will result in a weapon receiving 3% of attack damage. However the 3% does not mean that it will strike 3 times less often as it is an absolute statistic.

Rerolling a weapon is possible by pressing the green button on the item level upgrade menu using the arrows that circle. This will roll an item upgrader and alter its stats, but not reset the weapon's level or tie it to the account status.

Armor

Making a few improvements to your armor can make a huge differences in your capacity to withstand. Certain sets can provide MASSIVE improvements in the resistance to curses, poison, fire, and magic. This can make it easier to get through difficult areas. In general, the greater defense your character has, the more value you can get from every point of health, so it's important to improve your armor as often as you can.

You can upgrade your armor by visiting one of the Great Fairy Fountains. There are four Great Fairy Fountains available in the game and in order to unlock them all, you must complete an additional quest involving the Stable Trotters. Once you've completed the primary side quest and mastered the fountain that corresponds, you can then talk to any Great Fairy to open up the armor upgrade items menu.

The amount of materials required to upgrade each piece of armor will vary. In general, you'll need at anything from three to ten Red Chuchu Jellies and 10 Rupees for the first upgrade, then anywhere between five Rubies and ten Fire-Breath Lizalfos Horns for each subsequent upgrade. The Champion Leathers, for example, can be upgraded to an increase of 5 defense rating, which will allow you to keep up in frigid conditions with a large group of enemies. The Snowquill Headdress, on the other is able to be upgraded to +20 defense to ensure you can survive a raid with friends.

You can't upgrade your armor in the same way as weapons. If you're playing as a Warrior, you should focus on upgrading your armor to increase physical power or spell power. It's also worthwhile to save your armor upgrades to use for armor you'll wear at the end of the game, such as the Ring of Lightning and Spectral Shield, or the helmet you wear for the final boss fight, the Monter Parts Merchant's mask.

By giving the jeweler 10 Twinkling Titanite in Gerudo Town, you can unlock some perks on your armor. It is generally recommended to save these upgrades to the weapon you'll be using to beat the game. For example the Longsword or Battleaxe. It's nevertheless beneficial to have some upgrades to the helmets and chest armor to allow you to sneak around some monsters.

Potions

Potions are substances in bottles that, when consumed give the player the illusion of status for a few minutes. There are five types of potions that have different effects and durations. Upgrades are a cheaper alternative to purchasing a new trinket. A player can upgrade a trinket for as little 12 tokens. The new trinket will have the same base ilvl of the older one, and have an additional upgrade bonus of 1.

When the old Trinkets are no longer useful they can be upgraded. This allows a player to increase both their power and value over time. They can be traded among players which makes them a good alternative to gold.

In general players should make upgrades to their highest priority items first. This typically means the top-of-the-line items for their class, followed by their secondary items and finally, other gear items that will not be replaced in the near future (for instance rings or cloaks). When deciding on the items to upgrade, players must also consider their class's preferred statistics. For example when Haste and Crit are the two most important stats for a tank, they should prioritize upgrading their chest, helm shoulders, belt, and helm.

Trinkets can be upgraded to a higher ilvl once they are no longer useful, and the new trinket will receive an additional bonus of 1% for upgrading. A re-upgrade, however, can cause damage to the trinket unless it can be salvaged using the Black Lion Salvage Kit, or a salvage tool. Upgrades to trinkets can be more expensive than other upgrades, but still less expensive than buying a new one.
