WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also increases the random substatus.

Upgraded gear is generally more useful, unless the item has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are less valuable for those with higher variance because of the requirement to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any type of weapon or armor. However, the item used to upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks.

The cost of upgrades will depend on the current level of the equipment being upgraded however, they will always be less expensive than buying new equipment from other sources. For instance, upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to level up weapons and tools, armor and other items. They can be bought by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for a variety of currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any tool, weapon or armor. button, which will show a preview of the item at the next upgrade level when the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the slot of the item and the current item level, with weapons costing more than bracers or gloves, for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Item upgraders can be found in a variety of locations on the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases with the number of items that are being upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no item upgrader available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades must be acquired through various methods, which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, the upgrade item system has been modified a bit, and several new features added. After the player has upgraded to a specific level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item level will cost less. The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is decreased, and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is reduced also, but is only available when certain milestones are achieved.

Crests

Players have a variety of options when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are utilized during specific level upgrades for items. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests can only be used on equipment that is of a particular rank, and that each rank has its own requirements for upgrading.
