They also put her in a tank that is one-and-a half times smaller than her natural habitat.

In 2022, a new owner of Miami Seaquarium, who calls Lolita as a cousin of theirs, pledged to develop plans with a group of Lolita supporters known as Friends of Toki, and the Lummi Tribe, to move her eventually to open water. The plan included a sanctuary pen on the west coast of Washington where she could spend the remaining days receiving human care and be monitored by scientists. The sanctuary pen could be hundreds of times bigger than her Miami home, and would be surrounded by the ocean not a concrete tank.
